With the release of its second season, Solo Levelling is the talk of the town. It has become so popular that it has surpassed One Piece in popularity on Crunchyroll. However, does it really have anything to offer apart from its great production quality?
Solo Levelling is praised for its top-notch animation and fun fight choreography. However, in terms of characters, storytelling, and power system, it is almost as lacking as Demon Slayer. Solo Levelling has no character apart from its protagonist that is explored thoroughly and has a clear-cut character arc. The cast of side characters is bland and one-dimensional. It hardly has a story or an objective for the protagonist after his mother is saved. And its power system is unimaginative. It borrows elements heavily from every run-of-the-mill isekai. It is boring and predictable and really drives home the point that Solo Levelling is just an overhyped and overrated generic power fantasy that is only able to gather viewers due to its budget and not the quality of the story. In short, Solo Levelling is a good show for some reliable entertainment, but if you want to experience a story or connect with characters, it is not your cup of tea.
