“Happy Environment Day!”,
My phone pinged,
Another day for reels,
‘Screenager’ in me, winged!
In my 30s, yet feeling ancient,
bearing lifestyle ailments,
in the comfort of my four wheeler,
-my ‘prosthetic limb’,
drove to a nursery,
one block away,
picked up a sapling,
this time, a mango tree.
On my way back,
adding onto a pile of garbage,
an old crushed paper baggage,
in an intense discussion, I indulged,
with my co-sister, we condemned!
“The pavements are untidy,
The sight nauseating,
plastic, vomit, feces,
mosquitoes, buzzing filth flies.
Once City of Lakes,
now City that Reeks!!”
The onus is on them,
the ‘scepter carriers’,
we are deaf subjects,
unheard of civic sense.
Shamefaced, mortified,
singing the praises of foreign lands,
I fulfilled my obligations,
my civic duties towards the nation.
The little sapling, I carried,
where my conscience is usually buried,
Dug a hole, planted it,
where, last year’s ‘neem tree’ was sacrificed.
Selfies with the new bait,
tweaked to create a clickbait,
dead is my cognition,
hired AI-brain, spewed up a caption,
uploaded, never looked back!
All the while, a lizard chirped mockingly,
from my ‘Cemetery of Environmentalism’!
